Project Oasis offers small group interaction, as well as one-​on-​one chats with a supportive counselor or other caring adult. Peer groups of no more than six via Zoom, or eight in person, will engage in conversations and activities that are both therapeutic and fun. 

Ages: 12 through 22; flexible. Groups are divided into subgroups by age and personal factors.

When: In late December 2024, intro and brainstorming via Zoom (not limited to local participants). In early 2025, start our six-​week sessions.

Depending on participants’ school and extracurricular schedules, we’ll meet on weekdays from 4:00 to 5:00 or 5:30, wherever it feels right to end. Occasionally we’ll see and discuss a movie or have another special activity, so—with advance notice—the session might end as late as 6:00.

Sessions during school vacations will vary. We might have no meetings, or more than one meeting per week, depending on interest and participants’ availability.

Where: Winter 2025 sessions are via Zoom, then in spring we meet outdoors at a rural Watsonville property between Green Valley Road and Monte Vista School (ten minutes from the Airport Blvd exit). There’s plenty of parking space, and a Santa Cruz Metro bus conveniently stops next door.

Attendance: We’ll ask you to commit to attending at least two of the six weekly sessions per cycle. After two sessions, if you feel the group isn’t right for you, there’s no obligation to attend more. (There’s no fee; you don’t lose any money.) We’ll always welcome suggestions for how the group might better serve your needs.

While there’s an option to drop out, there’s not one to drop in. Instead, for each of the full six-​week sessions, we’ll keep the same peer group for stability, to build friendships and trust.

Duration: You may continue through multiple or unlimited six-​week sessions. We can be your home base for years. ☺️
